Childsmile

Childsmile Programme
at Giffnock Dental Practice

Childsmile is a national programme designed to improve the oral health of children in Scotland and reduce inequalities both in dental health and access to dental services.

At Giffnock Dental Practice you will be given advice and support from the dental team, who will show you how you can help your child maintain healthy teeth and prevent future tooth decay.

"Oral health disorders are the most common reason for elective hospital admission of children in Scotland. These account for over 10,000 cases per year." (National Dental Inspection Programme)

The dentist will advise you on how to keep your child's teeth healthy and help with practical problems such as teething, weaning and choosing the right food and drinks. We'll check your child's teeth and gums, ideally twice a year, and give any treatment your child might need.

These regular visits will also help your child to become familiar with being examined by a dentist. From the age of 2, the dental practice team can provide additional preventative care, such as fluoride varnish and fissure sealants.
